A recent article in the New York Times discusses the apparently puzzling topic of Jane Austen fans on the Alt-Right. I say apparently puzzling because the white liberal fans of Jane Austen cannot get past the Hollywood image of “white supremacists”. They have been taught their entire lives that white supremacists smoke meth and live in trailer parks, and that the only white people who really care about Western civilization are the good liberals like themselves who are working hard to destroy the West’s racial foundation.

The Austen expert cited in the piece seems to think that Alt-Right Austen fans are using the author’s works as part of a devious plot to make white nationalism seem more wholesome:

“By comparing their movement not to the nightmare Germany of Hitler and Goebbels, but instead to the cozy England of Austen,” she writes, alt-right Austen fans “nudge readers” into thinking that “perhaps white supremacists aren’t so different from mainstream folks.”

Another lady quoted in the piece seems to think that genuine admiration of Austen by “racists” is totally implausible:

“No one who reads Jane Austen’s words with any attention and reflection can possibly be alt-right,” Elaine Bander, a retired professor and a former officer of the Jane Austen Society of North America, said in an email.

“All the Janeites I know,” she added, “are rational, compassionate, liberal-minded people.”

What these white liberals fail to realize, of course, is that the works of Jane Austen are a product of white civilization. It is impossible to conceive of the world of Austen without whiteness. The English ladies and gentlemen, their country estates and their charming manners are bursting with whiteness. The appreciation of Austen’s books is equally entwined with whiteness, although the whiteness is implicit.

Whiteness follows white people wherever they go not matter how hard they try to avoid it. Even the white anti-racist’s anguish over his own whiteness is a product of that very whiteness (no other races ever reflect on themselves in that way).  Whether it’s Jane Austen novels or the music of Depeche Mode, white nationalists rally around distinctively white things because we value whiteness and are alarmed that it is being threatened. We embrace many of the same things that white liberals do, but we do so fully conscious of our whiteness.

My own move towards white nationalism was largely a result of coming to realize that without racial nationalism all of the things that I valued about white civilization would disappear. Like the Janeites mentioned by Elaine Bander, I was raised as a “rational, compassionate, liberal-minded” individual. While growing up in San Francisco I enjoyed going to the symphony, reading poetry by Wordsworth and Shelley, and studying the Greco-Roman Classics. Hardly the makings of a mouth-breathing Hollywood Nazi. But truly caring about the great achievements of European culture must imply racial nationalism.  No honest assessment of the current cultural and demographic situation can conclude that Western (i.e., white) civilization can continue without the white race.

By embracing the world of Jane Austen white nationalists are not being dishonest. It is the white liberals who are being dishonest when they claim that geniune appreciation of Jane Austen is compatible with our degenerate contemporary society. The choice facing the West is clear. On one side we have the world of Jane Austen, on the other side we have the world of slut walks, transgender “rights”, and immigrant invasion. We can only choose one side.
